Here’s an example of a well-preserved 1951 Gibson L-5 with a natural finish over the carved spruce top and figured maple body. Like other post-war Gibson archtops, this L-5 features a rosewood fretboard which was used shortly before the return of ebony and the introduction of electronics into the L-5. The guitars hardware and parts all remain original, and there’s minimal fret or playwear: some small marking around the body if you looked hard enough but no dents or dings on the corners or headstock edges. Most impressively, the pickguard is still 100% intact and hasn’t gassed off and started to deteriorate! It plays wonderfully, has a fully functioning truss rod and includes the original Gibson hardshell case.
